Hi All,
A small note to congratulate and celebrate the editors--Moira Richards, Rosemary Starace, and Lesley Wheeler-- associate editors, contributors, publishers of LETTERS--who together made the anthology a beautiful and stunning collection.
And this to share with the list: Lois Roma-Deeley and I just finished hosting Kate Gale, Eloise Klein Healy, and Peggy Shumaker over two days of readings from LETTERS in the Phoenix area. These poets together with Lois read their own, and others in the book--I read poets in the anthology, too, poems we found moving, profound, poems by poets we know and love or poets whose work we love but whom we only know from Wom-Po and have never met. We did this one day in conjunction with "Warrior Poets & Papermakers," Iraq Veterans against the War who make paper out of uniforms, print poems on the paper, transforming the destructive energy--a meeting of the Viet Nam and Iraq Wars generations. This, on the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. And another day for Women's History Month.
It was both celebration and mourning, both transmission and transformation. Useful and possible. It reached a few people, relatively speaking, but we imagine that it ripples out. We say it ripples out.
