News this week from The Bumbershoot Annual, Umbrella Journal, The Citron Review, Southern Women's Review (back issues of the newspaper are archived at the Wompo festival of women's poetry here: wompherence.proboards.com ).
1. The Bumbershoot Annual, the "lighter offshoot" of Umbrella Journal, published by Kate Bernadette Benedict, has just uploaded its 2010 edition.
Special features include a section of internet-related poems ("Web Feet") and "Poetic Mathematicals" by well-known children's author and versifier J. Patrick Lewis. Cover art is by New York City artist Mary Reilly.

Umbrella Journal will be reading for its fall issue between August 15 and October 10 and seeks high-quality poetry on general subjects and on the special theme of "Hope."

2. The Citron Review at www.thecitronreview.com is accepting submissions for its fall publication.
Send your work to submissions (at) thecitronreview.com, with a subject heading of "Citron Review Submission: (Genre)." In the body of the e-mail, please include a short bio in the third person and the text of the submission.
We have no thematic requirements for submissions. We publish Micro-Fiction (60 words), Flash-Fiction (up to 1,000 words), Poetry (no more than 30 lines), and Creative Non-Fiction (no more than 1,000 words).

Submissions from our current reading period of August 1st - October 31st will be published in our January 2011 issue.
Whether you are a born and bred Southerner, a Southern transplant, or merely a frequent visitor, we welcome you to submit your poetry/prose, fiction, creative nonfiction/memoirs, and photography.
Submissions should be from women who were born in or grew up in the U.S. South; currently live in the U.S. South; or write about the U.S. South. For editorial purposes, we consider the U.S. South to be a region comprised of the following areas: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Maryland, Washington DC, and West Virginia.
