Wompo Publishers Newspaper
News this week from Elephant Tree House, Beltway Poetry Quarterly (back issues of the newspaper are archived at the Wompo festival of women's poetry here: wompherence.proboards.com ).
1.
Announcing ELEPHANT TREE HOUSE, a new tiny poetry press in the initial stages of development, conceived of and directed by Alan Hayes and Rosemary Starace. Our website: www.elephanttreehouse.com/index.php
Elephant Tree House grows out of Meaning and Form, a design/editorial partnership focused mostly on commercial work, but which often took a break to produce art catalogs and other small books for various artistic and literary purposes. Elephant Tree House takes its name from the large majestic copper beech outside our window.
Elephant Tree House will publish contemporary poetry chapbooks simultaneously in two editions:
* A signed and numbered fine press edition of 20 to 30 copies which will be printed with an inkjet printer using archival pigment-based inks on acid-free art papers and have hand sewn bindings and paper covers. A portion of this edition will be reserved for the author and we hope to develop a subscription base of collectors for the remainder.
*A trade edition produced using print-on-demand technology. Print on demand will allow us to economically produce books that will be generally indistinguishable from any other trade paperback; they will be perfect bound, with full color covers and a square spine with room for title/author/press. POD also means that we will be able to keep books in print indefinitely and easily take advantage of present day on-line distribution possibilities.
We are currently forming an editorial board that will consist of poets and others attuned to artistic quality. The board will join us in soliciting chapbooks by invitation, subject to review and ultimate selection by the board. (We will not be taking unsolicited submissions.) We plan to publish two or three books per year. We have not worked out all the details of the author-publisher relationship, but authors will not be charged money to publish, nor required to purchase or sell books in advance of publication.
Please contact us by email at: ETH@meaningandform.com.
Elephant Tree House announces its first publication: REQUITEMENTS by Rosemary Starace.
Requitements, a poetry chapbook, is now available in a trade paperback edition, with a fine press edition in process. Requitements examines grief, longing, kinship, and connection from the vantage point of an adopted person.
Sample poems, blurbs, and ordering information can be found at www.elephanttreehouse.com/index.php. Please contact us by email to request review copies: ETH@meaningandform.com.
2.
