CLOSERBY LAURA FARGAS submitted by Peggy Miller One of the deepest and most universal aches is loneliness, and certainly that is a part of “Closer” by Laura Fargas. The poem is unique, personal, and so unusually realized. The language is calm and intriguing. The images are compelling. By the end I am there by a lake with the poet. The poem reflects life’s complexity. I find here not only loneliness but also quiet, a certain playing at the edges of regret, and the solace one finds in nature. Here is the voice of one with experience, one who must be left untouched, one who has arrived at peace with her heartache, one who has learned a habit of patience and a long wanting. I recently discovered this poem on the internet. Hope it affects you as much as it did me.
