Yolanda Palis left the Philippines to study in Paris, France. She has worked for a nanny while living in Europe. Her poems and essays have been published in the Philippines, France, and the US. She published a collection of poems called Various Times (1993). She was in the groundbreaking Babaylan: An Anthology of Filipina and Filipina American Writers co-edited by Nick Carbó and Eileen Tabios and published by Aunt Lute Press in 2000. Yolanda produced a play called "Where Peace Begins", which was produced by the IMF-World Bank Book Club. She lives and works in Washington, DC.
"Contract"
a wind-battered hut, a waterfront house bought presumed possessed man/woman marry assumed ownership-- daring into dense green forests of relationships i stare at meteors, converse with unattached voices.
i signed a contract to survive. a day, two years surrounded by broken glasses, empty bottles while across the hall, cadavers float among debris of past places i assumed i possessed, i owned, thus belonged...
