4. Mastering Metaphor
Online class taught by Jennifer Burd through The Loft Literary Center (www.loft.org)
Fall 2015 (November 2 - December 20, 2015) – NOW OPEN FOR REGISTRATION
Course description:
Metaphor is the heart of creative writing. This course – for those who write poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction, or who simply wish to deepen their experience of reading – looks at the many ways writers create meaning through metaphor. Each week we'll look at specific types of metaphor and how various other comparisons and compressions “ including metonymy, symbol, white space, tῩtles, line and stanza breaks, rhythm, rhyme, and even punctuation “ can work in metaphor-like ways. Activities include ῷriting practice and interactive discussion of particular works of poetry and creative prose. This is a six week class, but we will have a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
