4. "Grimm Histories and Fairy Tale Poetries"
The Rooster Moans Poetry Cooperative
Fairy tale history is grim and not just when it's spelled with a double "m." Stepsisters hack off heels or toes to reveal themselves as mutilated misfits when gold, glass or fur slippers reveal a trail of blood. Daughters offer up hands for amputation to save fathers from devil's bargains. Cannibalistic hags occupy chicken-legged houses with gates formed from human metatarsals, while little girls eat the blood and flesh of their grandmothers before being swallowed by wolves.
Grimm histories will be among the subjects covered in "The True Fairy Poem," a month-long workshop offered by the Rooster Moans Poetry Cooperative in March 2015.
Early bird pricing is still available. Five seats remain. To learn more and/or to sign up, visit the Coop at poetrycoop.com/poetry-workshops/true-fairy-tale-poem . Questions may also be directed to teaching artist Brenda Mann Hammack at BrendaHammack@msn.com or bhammack@uncfsu.edu.
