5. WORKSHOP: Anapest, Dactyl, Iamb, Trochee
Anapest, dactyl, iamb, trochee: Don't know what these metric feet are? Know, but don't know how to best use them for your poetry? Don't worry; by the end of this workshop, you will! We will read, write, and recite metric poetry and learn to scan poems using Shakespeare, Dickinson, Crane, Poe, Annie Finch, Timothy Steele, and others.
Workshops held on March 7, 14, 21, and 28, 4-6 pm. Comfortable Manhattan space on West 72nd near 1,2,3 trains and M5, M72, and M104 buses. Price: $195 for all four sessions. Enrollment limited. Preregistration and deposit required. Call 212-712-9865 for more information.
Workshop leader Larissa Shmailo is poetry editor of MadHat Annual, editor-in-chief of Twenty-first Century Russian Poetry, and translator of the Russian Futurist opera Victory over the Sun. Her work has been published in over 100 noted journals and will appear in the new Random House anthology of metrical verse, Measure for Measure.

Registration is now open for the Winter/Spring 2015 Workshop series.
Now is the time to make a commitment to your poetry writing practice and join the winter/spring workshop series. As always, the workshop includes homemade vegetarian food, wine, & drinks, and a supportive community in which to grow in your practice. Workshops include optional writing exercises, close readings of poems, and critiques of works in progress, in addition to an optional one-on-one conference with instructor Hila Ratzabi. The workshop will run for 10 weeks on Sundays (1:00-3:30pm) starting Feb. 1st. The cost for the series is $400. Registration deadline is January 28th.

First Spring-Term session of P. Brody's workshop: Seeking Your Voice
meets every other Wednesday, 7-9 pm at Barnard College, NYC.
We begin each class with brief readings in a "contemporary" poet,
before turning to our own poems. We would love to welcome a couple of new members to this highly nurturing and clear-
eyed group. This is a careful, caring and challenging(in positive ways) workshop.
First meeting we'll explore Rilke's Duino Elegies for inspiration.
