WELCOME WOM-PO Workshoppers!
Important information first:
Because...
writers care about artists' rights, Festival volunteers have responsibly cited the original Internet location (URL) of each image. These images are for educational, enJOYment, and private workshop uses only. Outside the workshop participants would need to get the usual, lawful permissions from the source to publish any image here along side their poems. (Of course this would be true whether it's a Fruit Loops cereal box image or an Henri Matisse.) That we use them solely for our purposes here as a point of focus should not imply that any permissions have been granted in writing to any Wompo Women's Poetry Festival 2008 individual or group.
Because...
there is no agreement across the board in the poetry community about the subtleties of the modern use of the "E-word" and what constitutes an "E-poem..."
and...
the accumulated information available on "any" genre of poetry among this extraordinarily knowledgeable Wompo member base is such that, offering any one definition of "ekphrasis” or “ekphrastic poetry", goes beyond impractical to become just plain folly. :-) So lest we're deterred from the spirit of the workshop -- which is to have fun and dig for that seed of inspiration that might someday (or today!) become a very satisfying piece of writing -- let's look at possibilities and see where it goes.
***Doing what poets fearlessly do -- knit words together...
***playing with relationships between art and literature...
***exploring outside the Self...
***responding to something that is...
***maybe...
***outside our Personal Experience.
Go to the challenge-for-the-day and...
WRITE.
Remember...
there is no such thing as "getting it."
HAVE FUN!
