2. Beltway Poetry Quarterly announces the release of the Spring 2017 issue, the Cave Canem 20th Anniversary Issue. Featuring 57 poems by 31 poets with strong ties to the greater Washington, DC region who have been fellows or faculty of Cave Canem over the past twenty years, guest edited by Holly Bass and Joel Dias-Porter.
As the introduction states: “In the twenty years since its founding, Cave Canem has made significant contributions to the growth of American poetry, training new generations of poets of African descent, crating deep ties among the writers, and building spaces that are simultaneously safe and challenging for writers of color to express their fullest cultural identities…Although based in New York City, from the start, the Washington, DC region has been one of the major contributors of new Cave Canem faculty—a remarkably high percentage have lived or worked in DC at some point in their lives.”
Contributors: Cave Canem co-founders Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady, as well as Elizabeth Acevedo, Saida Agostini, Jane Alberdeston, Elizabeth Alexander, E.J. Antonio, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Remica Bingham-Risher, Derrick Weston Brown, Carleasa Coates, Teri Ellen Cross Davis, Kyle G.
