What’s a Map?

Or will you go your own way
as you always have:
the maze your magnet
chaos your claim
emptying boxes
side-stepping circles
snarling at the ruler
and compass
oblivious to lines
and destination
your eyes around
some corner
of.

Never mind.

Thanks for the Sunday morning fun! :P

Yes, fun! For some reason, these visual prompts have triggered formal experiments for me.... Haven't tried a villanelle in ages. No masterpiece, but certainly fun to turn my hand to.

ONCE A LOVER

Are you singing your song?
Is your life what you hoped?
Is it coming along?

Our days are long gone –
but a tremor remains, like a note…
Are you singing your song?

I hear it: bright, strong,
as if in my blood, encoded.
You’ve come with me, all along.

Look at the sun. Long
rays wrap the world like rope,
their shimmer our song,

yours and mine. We belong
where we are, our abodes,
our lives, coming along.

You’re just one face in the throng,
nothing owing, nothing owed.
Still I hear you, singing my song.
I’m happy you’ve come along.

Night of Possibilities

I'm waiting
by the corner of Charles
one block from the river,
sitting on the fence of your
corral. Yes, that's what
you called this fenced-in
patch of green.
Waiting for our soft
shoe dance, we can make
this night wild,
unpredictable, I have coins
we can toss—
give each other a read.
Let's hop scotch
Washington Square, where
memories flare my nostrils wide.
I'm waiting, and you know
I hate to wait.
