"Womyn Defiant"
They say
Every woman
Has a man
I defy
They say
Within woman
Is a man
I defy
They place
Me in a box
With microscopic
Eyes, watch
Every move
They conclude, and
I defy
In printed words
I see myself
Labeled, defined, categorized.
I defy
The look in my eyes
Flick of my hand
Toss of my head
Shrill of my laughter
Absence of my stare
Baptized with their meaning.
I defy.
They say
The essence of my existence
Is this and that
I defy
They say
The truths of my being
The secrets of my soul
The fulfillment of my heart
The days of my life
I defy
I am
I speak
I write.
I defy.

"Poet's Guilt"
I write
With reckless abandon
With pure delight
With passion
With fear
Write of me, of loves
Of rivers through mountains
Dreams to pursue
I write
Yet I also fear, I doubt
Power of a pen
Pen like a knife
Stories I failed to tell
Lives I haven’t writ
A mother writhes in hunger
Landless farmer clawing the earth
The hollow-eyed boy who tugged my shirt
I write
Of me, of loves
Of rivers through mountains
Dreams to pursue
The last stroke
Of my pen, I write
My name
With guilt
With shame
