Luba Halicki was born in Chicago and grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. Her mother was born and raised in Iloilo, Philippines, and her father was born in the Ukraine and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Halicki-Hoffman received a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994. Halicki received an MFA in creative writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and teaches English and writing at Columbia College and Truman College in Chicago. Her published work can be found in Babaylan: An Anthology of Filipina and Filipina American Writers (Aunt Lute Books), and Screaming Monkeys (Coffee House Press). She has read and performed in sound/voice performances in various venues across Chicago including the Hothouse, the Guild Complex, the Spareroom, and 1926 Gallery.
